Cyclonic storm ‘DAYE’ over Odisha moves west-northwestwards, weakens into a deep depression; heavy downpour forecast for next 12 hours

Khabarindiaonline:   The cyclonic storm “DAYE” over south Odisha and its neighbourhood has moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 26 kilometres per hour and weakened into a deep depression.

AIR correspondent reports as the cyclonic storm crossed Odisha coast, heavy downpour occurred in the southern and south-west region of the State, raising the water level of major rivers in  Malkangiri, Balasore and Koraput districts.

As per the information received, road communication is disrupted at different places in Malkangiri district. Communication with Chhattisgarh has also been affected as Challanguda bridge got submerged.

“Due to heavy downpour, the water level in Balimela and upper Kolab reservoirs has increased forcing the authorities to open gates to drain excess flood water from dams. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the flood-like situation in Malkangiri and announced the distribution of relief and financial assistance for seven days to affected people.

Malkangiri recorded the highest rainfall during the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Met office said as the storm turned into deep depression, many parts of southern and south-west regions of the State are likely to experience heavy downpour in next 12 hours. ( Source: AIRN ).
