Khabarindiaonline: In Jammu and Kashmir, a policeman was killed and five security personnel injured in an encounter with terrorists in Batmaloo area of Srinagar city today.
Security sources said, the forces launched a cordon and search operation in the wee hours on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area. As the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, triggering an encounter.
One policeman lost his life, while two members of Special Operations Group of state police and three CRPF personnel were injured. Two accomplices of the terrorists were arrested and a hideout busted. The firing has since stopped, as the terrorists are said to have escaped. The search operation is, however, still on.
The sources said, intelligence reports suggested that the terrorists were planning to strike in the city on the eve of Independence Day. Internet services continue to be suspended in Srinagar district as a precautionary measure. ( Source: AIRN ).
